Launched in January 2019, Western North Carolina LGBTQIA+ Archive is a cultural heritage repository for oral histories and physical artifacts related to queer history of the South. We work in partnership with Blue Ridge Pride and many trained volunteers.

Our archive is home to 133 oral history interviews and a wide-range of cultural ephemera (e.g., PRIDE festival paraphernalia, travel scrapbooks, reader-written periodicals, T-shirts, buttons). Oral history transcriptions and digitized physical artifacts are keyword searchable here. We add more items everyday.

Community programming includes oral history training workshops, public history and humanities exhibitions, storytelling circles, and a historical walking tour in downtown Asheville. Book a tour here.
